ArtZone Term 1

 

ArtZone is a brand new and exciting range of performing arts and media courses for 10 – 14 year olds who are interested in taking part in the arts!

 

Term 1 of ArtZone is kicking off with some of our most popular courses; Street Dance, Music Production, DJ’ ing and Jewellery Making. If any of these courses have caught your eye, get down to SYPC to sign up!

 

All courses are FREE and tutored by experienced professionals. Lasting for six weeks, you will pick up new skills, have a chance to show them off, and be awarded a certificate for all of your hard work.

 

Courses on offer:

 

Music Production Saturday 19th June 1:30 – 3:00pm (6 weeks):

 

Interested in making your own music? Want to learn how to use the Sound Studio? Then this course will provide you with all the skills you need!

 

Street Dance Saturday 19th June 1:30 – 3:00pm (6 weeks):

 

Come and get into the groove at our very own dance studio. You’ll learn from the experts and will be showing off your new moves in no time!

 

D-Jing Saturday 19th June 1:30 – 3:00pm (6 weeks):

Wanna discover how to mix music? Our professional DJ will train you on how it all works so why not jump on the decks and give it a whirl! 

 

Jewellery Making Saturday 19th June 1:30 – 3:00pm (6 weeks):

 

Learn how to be individual and create your own personalised jewellery. With all that funky style you’ll be the talk of the town!

Star Academy Term 6!!!
Free Performing Arts and Media Courses for 13 - 18 year olds...

At Slough Young Peoples Centre we’re very excited at the prospects young people have within the performing arts and media field. In fact, we’re so enthusiastic about it, that we are now promoting our 6th term of Star Academy, in order for you to Up Your Arts!

Join our free Performing Arts and Digital Arts courses this June for 13-18 year olds and set yourself up for stardom. We’re offering a range of short courses to suit you. Don’t be shy, we’re all very friendly, and it might just be what you’re looking for!

Vintage Charity Shop Challenge Monday 21st June 18:00 – 19:30pm:
Passion for fashion? See how creative you can be with your own personal budget to shop and create a masterpiece. You’ll explore styling, making use of colours and shapes to build outfits for everyone! Your end of term performance will see your looks take to the runway. 

Glee Club Tuesday 22nd June 16:30 – 18:00pm:
You’ve all seen the TV programme, so why not join the club! After the first term’s successful performance, we are very excited to begin our second term of Glee. It’s like being in a choir but you get to sing songs like Beyonce’s Halo and  Rhianna’s Umbrella – it’s going to be HUGE!
Break Jam Night Wednesday 23rd June 19:30 – 20:30pm:
Are you a B-boy or B-girl who wants to impress everyone with your Breakdance skills? Join these open style breakdance sessions to be taught and to show some amazing moves! Working alongside a professional tutor and your peers will equip you with the skills to ‘jam’.
Street Dance Beginners Wednesday 23rd June 16:30 – 18:00pm:
If you have a keen interest in street dance, but not necessarily the confidence, our beginners class will definitely be the right choice for you. Working with our popular tutor to create a routine over eight weeks will get you warmed up for the end of term showcase! 
Street Dance Intermediate Wednesday 23rd June 18:00 – 19:30pm:
If you’ve already had your introduction to street dance and you’re ready to work harder, the intermediate class will get your pulse racing and your feet moving! With phenomenal tracks and an ace tutor, you’ll learn a routine to drop jaws.
 Music Production Thursday 24th June 16:30 – 18:00pm:
 This is THE course to learn how to create beats, lay down tracks and even use the recording studio at SYPC without having to pay a penny!  Don’t miss the opportunity.

Ever seen Dubplate Drama? Well make way for In The Endz. Yes people, Slough’s very own interactive drama series addressing all the issues you face but don’t quite want to talk about. The series will be available online. Every week there will be a new scenario with two endings to choose from, giving you the control to decide how you want the episode to end. If you want to get involved or just want to vote, keep your eyes peeled and your ears open…All this Term’s courses will contribute to  the trailer for the first series, so sign up now!

YoungStar is a massive Slough wide talent search, engaging 800 young people in the town and surrounding areas.

Applicants who enter the talent showcase will perform their star quality to a panel of industry professionals. The winner will get the help of a professional mentor and career development grant of £1,500.

This April will see five open auditions being held in Slough at youth centres, culminating in a grand finale event, where the winning performance will be decided on. Open auditions will be in dance, drama (including spoken word), production, including radio broadcasting, singing, comedy and crazy skills.

  • Audition dates:
    Monday, April 6 from 5pm to 7.30pm at Horsemoor Green, Common Road, Langley
  • Tuesday, April 7 from 5pm to 8pm at SYPC, 323 High Street Slough
  • Thursday, April 9 from 5pm to 8pm at the Haymill Centre, 112 Burnham Lane, Slough
  • Saturday, April 11 from 5pm to 8pm at The Orchard Youth and Community Centre, 73a Stoke Poges Lane, Slough
  • Tuesday, April 14 from 5pm to 8pm at the West Wing, Stoke Road, Slough

The grand finale will be held on Saturday April 18, 7pm till 9pm at the West Wing, Stoke Road.

The project is supported by Slough youth service and will be run by volunteers drawn from young people attending SYPC.

Slough Young Peoples Centre’s (SYPC) latest event, The Show Me up Showcase will demonstrate the many talents of the students of The Star Academy and The Afterhours Arts Academy, at 7pm on 18th November at the West Wing Theatre

The performers, all aged between 13 and 25, and have been working extremely hard over the last 10 weeks to produce performances. Street dancers, Breakdancers, Actors, MC’s, Graffiti artists, Singers, Musicians, TV Presenters and Radio personalities have all been building up the skills needed to hit the stage.

Sneaker Seeker is HERE everyone!

Do you want your own FREE pair of Nikes???? Well it is possible, thanks to the Heritage Lottery Funding. 

We're running workshops in Photography, Film, Radio and Sneaker Customisation with some of the biggest brands and designers in the Industry. Everyone who takes part in the Sneaker Customisation workshops will get a FREE pair of Nikes which you customise with whatever you want. They then appear in an exhibition seen by thousands!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Afterhours Arts Academy based at Slough Young People's Centre has been short listed for a Children and Young People’s Services Award.

The Academy provides free Performing Arts and New Media courses for 19 to 25 year olds, and has been nominated in the arts and culture category. Afterhours is funded by the Arts Council, Lifelong Learning and SEEDA and the staff team would like to thank the funders for their continued support of the project.  

A panel of young people will now judge the short listed entries and the winners will be announced at a gala dinner opened by children's secretary, Ed Balls, on Thursday November 20. 

The Afterhours Arts Academy also reached the final three in the National Lottery Awards 2007 in the category of Best Arts Project and SYPC reached the finals of the Awarding Sustainable Communities Award in 2007.


FUNKSTYLERZ UK COME TO SYPC
come along on Wednesday 29th October to our Black History day.The day runs from between 2pm - 8pm, and includes drama, music, art, poetry and dance. Funkstylerz will be performing and running a masterclass.

YoungStar comes to Slough.........

YoungStar 
is a town wide talent search for young people aged 13-25 in Slough. It will celebrate and recognise young people’s talent and achievements in the creative field. This will take the form of a ‘roadshow’ of auditions in schools/colleges and youth centres, culminating in a Grand Finale event, where the winning performance will be decided on.
 
There will be a series of audition events around the town to ascertain the best performers, who will then be invited to perform at a Grand Finale event in April 09. The project will be supported by a team of young people, who will also help to deliver the initial roadshows, drumming up interest in the performance events. They will also promote and publicise the project across Slough. If you want to be part of this exciting event, please contact Karlene or Shante at SYPC 01753 539300
 

SYPC Steering Group has first meeting........
Want to have a say in how Slough Young People's Centre is run, and what happens here? The Steering Group is your chance get heard. 
The first meeting happened during the May half term and was a great success with about 15 people wanting to get involved. The next few weeks will see the group plan what it wants to achieve, and recruit more members. There are some really cool projects already being discussed!
So, if you are keen to be involved, please speak to one of the SYPC staff team, or keep your eyes peeled around the building or here at MYSYPC for details of upcoming meetings.


Counselling comes back to SYPC.........

Got a problem? Need someone to talk to? 
SYPC can now offer free counselling to 16-25 year olds, with our fully qualified and very friendly counsellor. Limited sessions are available, drop-in to the centre to book up.
